Happiness: A Gardener's Point of View

by Nenita Wells
The gardener has often wondered,
What trees to plant in his garden bared.
He pondered awhile and looked around.
The answer, he finally found.
You see, the day before last.
A storm has visited the gardener's lot.
Roaring wind and heavy rain,
Wreaked havoc upon the plain.
He wanted to plant the trees of kind,
That will stand the test of time.
Apple, grapefruit, persimmon, lemon
Fruit-bearing trees to nourish mankind.
The gardener has seen it all,
He had been to different lands,
To fight and defend the ideals
Of his country and men.
In no time, he will be a centenarian,
Enjoying, indulging, the fruit of his work.
The cherry trees are blossoming again,
Ah, the happiness he felt just looking in.

This poem was written for a gardener at heart, the author's uncle in California who is a veteran of World War II and married to her wonderful aunt. A kind and loving man and most importanly, he has a green thumb!
