A Mother's Day Tribute To A Nightingale

Posted: Thursday, May 07, 2009

by Nenita Wells

She sings like a nightingale.

And loves to tell us tale.

Of long ago and about life,

Plain and simple and with blithe.

She prays and devoutly praise,

The Lord who gave her grace

Her generous heart a haven,

For her children and grandchildren.

She has learned at an early age

That life is full of cares but pledge

To her worried ailing mother

She will take care of her sister.

At twenty-two she was wed.

A new married life she adapted

To a gentleman from the States.

Faced life squarely without regrets.

Worked hard and determined

Her children will succeed.

Looked up to heaven and sing

Hymns of praises and thanksgiving.

She is like a rainbow, a shower

of raindrops falling from above

She is my mother's only sister

A wonderful person I could ever have.

"She sings like a nightingale and loves to tell us tale"? C'mon, Nenita, you've got to bleed a little if you want to write poetry. At least: She sings like a Nightingale and loves to tell us tales of a simpler life, so long ago. You love this lady? Love to write? Then rewrite, rewrite, rewrite . . .

Thank you Sandra.
I am delighted you liked my poem. Yes, my auntie loved it.  I printed the poem on the inside of  the pink and white plaid design card and sent it to her just before Mother's Day.  She was so thrilled and called me immediately, I was so happy to hear her voice.
God bless and best regards,
Nenita
