The Country Is Blessed And Indebted To You

by

I met you under the scorching sun in summer.

I met you during the rainiest day in spring.

In the crisp fall air I walked with you.

I comforted you during the coldest night in winter.

I shook your trembling hand and you shook mine back firmly.

I looked at your face and saw the confidence that you will be victorious.

I saw the fear in your eyes but yet you were determined.

You fought so bravely and fought to the end.

I saw you when you pulled out from your pocket the family portrait.

I saw the smile in your face and the glitter in your eyes.

I saw the longing, the desire to be home again.

Proudly waving the flag of freedom, the ultimate reason.

I heard you pray to the Divine Providence,

Asking Him that life be as predictable as the season,

Asking Him that you will be home.

For you have done what you wanted to do

And there will be peace in the land.

Oh, valiant soldiers,

I can not repay you for what you have done

I am forever indebted.

I am your country and am blessed because of you.

I am glad you liked my poem and thank you for your comment.  And  yes, if just one soldier will read this and know that we appreciate their service to our country and their ultimate sacrifice for us, then I will be truly happy I wrote this poem and it will be more meaningful.  Thank you for your kind and warm words.

Our soldiers (USA and Canada) put their lives on the line for each of us. As I read this poem, I had the feeling that they were the ones you were talking about. I may be wrong, but that is what I got from this poem. Whatever the meaning, it was well written.

Hi David.
Thank you for your insightful comment, and oh yes, this poem is for them, our brave soldiers.  You perfectly understood the meaning and intent of what I wrote and for that I thanked you. (i should have been more specific in my writing so that the reader will not be left quessing, my apology.)  I added the most important line in my poem, I am grateful for your pointing it out to me.
Blessings.
Best regards,
Nenita
