The Reflection In the Mirror Smiled Back With Reassuring Nod

by

Counting your good deeds

Is not advisable thing to do.

What you gave with the right hand

The left should never know.

Adding up all the bad feelings,

Voice you should not heed.

It will only eat you up inside

Worse, it makes you disconcerted.

Expect not who you helped are grateful,

Never think of that for it makes you apprehensive.

You are better off considering the loan as gift

And best to zero it out in your head.

Notice not your shoulder's burden

That weight will soon be lighter.

Your heavy yoke will be lifted,

Your faith in God will not wander.

Helping those that can not help you in return,

Is generosity of the highest degree.

The time you gave is worthwhile spent,

When you open your heart freely with glee.

Mind not the turbulence you now felt

That, too, is temporary, vanish it one day will.

Hold on tight for it will swiftly pass,

Until peace, quite and calm prevail.

Life's struggles constantly reviewed,

Looking back bewildered but enlightened.

Learning from your laborious past

Not bitter nor fretful but content.

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror?

Counting all the lines now permanently etched,

The reflection smiled back with reassuring nod

Peaceful, delightfully pleasing and blessed.

Your poem made me reflect on my own reasons for service and generosity. it would be nice of course to be recognized. but i find that service is its own reward. the fullness we feel from every act of generosity and service is unparalleled.
