Do you give a card, gift and have a special dinner, or give red roses to your loved one on Valentine's Day? Do you plan a romantic evening? Do you plan in advance or stage a romantic surprise with your sweetheart? Whatever you are planning to do, make it special.

Do you know that this time of the year approximately 1 billion Valentine's day cards within the three-day period are exchanged according to the American Greetings Corporation and Greeting Card Association?

There will be110 million red roses that will be sold and delivered during Valentine's Day. 73% are men and 27% of women buy flowers, according to Roses Incorporated and Floral Index.

People spend $650 million in sales of food, flowers, gifts, candy, chocolate and wine. Valentine's Day generates sales and helps the economy.

You can also write a romantic letter or a home-made card with your own design using the following inspirational verses:

Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs, it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoice with the truth. There is no limit to love's forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure . ~1 Corinthians 13:4-7

There are three things that amazes me no, four things that I don't understand: how an eagle glides through the sky, how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman . ~Proverbs 30:18-19

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends . ~Proverbs 17:17

Place me like a seal over your heart , like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame . ~Song of Solomon 8:6

Many waters cannot quench love ; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love , it would be utterly scorned. ~Song of Solomon 8:7

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins . 1 Peter 4:8

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach. ~Elizabeth Barrett Browning

He felt now that he was not simply close to her, but that he did not know where he ended and she began . ~ Leo Tolstoy

The hours I spend with you I look upon as sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it. You and you alone make me feel that I am alive. Other men it is said have seen angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough. ~George Moore

How did it happen that their lips came together? How does it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the rose unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the start shape of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said . ~ Victor Hugo

My heart to you is given: Oh, do give yours to me; We'll lock them up together, And throw away the key . ~Frederick Saunders

I wishI I had the gift of making rhymes, for methinks there is poetry in my head and heart since I have been in love with you . ~Nathaniel Hawthorne , letter to his wife Sophia, December 5, 1839

A man had given all other bliss, And his worldly worth for this To waste his whole heart in one kiss, Upon her perfect lips . ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love , time is eternity . ~Henry Van Dyke

Candle light, moon light, star light, The brightest glow is from love light . ~Grey Livingston

Happy Valentine's Day and may your celebration during this special day be as unforgettable and meaningful as in the previous years.

Stay well and be well.

Hi Nenita,

What an inspiring article! It is very important to reemphasize the very essence and art of romance; no matter the time of year. We don't get to reflect on it enough. Nice job!

Those quotes were not all made on Feb 14. I see Valentines Day as sort of a pagan festival. Love should be experssed daily. To have to designated a day to express it cheapens it's value. Thanks, though. It's a nice read.

Hi Jack.

Thank you for taking the time to read as well as comment. You are right, expressions of love should not be said on Valentine's Day only but should be expressed every day of the year to your loved one. I am glad you stopped by.

All the best.

Nenita,

Very nice sentiments.  I have three sons and a daughter.  One son is in the Army. The oldest is moving through some difficulties with his life and my younger ones, both teenagers, are well and flourishing.  As a proud Dad, I will always love all my kids, no matter their circumstances, any mistakes they may have made or may still make.  So this is a nice reminder to let all my children know that they are loved tremendously.

Thank you, Nenita.
